If you’ve been inspired by The Repair Shop on BBC1, make a date with Repair Cafe Havant, who will be at Meridian on Saturday 19th October to raise awareness of International Repair Day!
Established in 2017, International Repair Day promotes the value and importance of repairing, and we are delighted to host this very worthy event this year.
Bringing in a team of talented volunteers, Repair Cafe Havant will be on site to show how to, and / or advise on repairs to: furniture; clothing and soft furnishings; electronics; tool sharpening, general electrical and more!
Who: Repair Café Havant
Why: International Repair Day
Where: Meridian Shopping Centre
When: Saturday 19th October, 10am – 3pm
What: Repair Café Havant is a community and social event run by volunteers.
There are many reasons to repair something rather than throw it away, so somebody may want something repaired for a completely different reason from the next person through.
If the item is quite old it may be that there is a sentimental reason for wanting to keep it working, or it could be that it is well made and apart from one thing it is likely to be better than a new item.
In some cases the reason may be financial, it is either too expensive to buy a replacement, or there is just something better to spend the money on if it can be fixed at a reasonable cost or for free.
Then there are the environmental reasons, it saves more rubbish heading to landfill and reduces the need for more resources to be used to make new things.
Whatever your reason for wanting something repaired, Repair Café Havant are here to help, and if you can’t make the event at the Meridian, they run a monthly pop-up repair event open to anyone.
They are not for profit but appreciate a contribution to their running costs if you benefit from the repairs and enjoy the available refreshments.
Coffee and cake are always available so your journey won’t be wasted!
To date the Repair Café has run over 21 events and prevented over 11 tonnes of carbon emissions, and it is thanks to all its wonderful supporters who have helped that this has been made possible.
